Windsor pummels Robert Toombs Christian 57-8 to punch ticket to state title game
Windsor Academy is officially heading to the state championship game, and the Knights wasted little time making sure of it, steamrolling the Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders 57-8 to punch their ticket. Behind five rushing touchdowns from senior quarterback Heath Woodard in the first half and another explosive performance from sophomore running back Jaquan Lewis, top-seeded Windsor dominated the No. 4-seeded Crusaders right from the opening kickoff. The Knights improved to 10-1, extending their winning streak to 10 games, while the Crusaders finished their season 0-11. “They’ve been a great two-headed monster,” Windsor head coach Dylan Bass said of Woodard and Lewis. Windsor’s offense struck immediately after RTCA came up short on a fake punt. On the Knights very first possession of the game, Lewis burst into a near 70 yard run that got his unit all the way to the 5-yard line. Woodard, who came into the contest leading the Knights in rushing touchdowns, showed off his impressive speed as he raced around the right edge for the opening touchdown. RTCA’s second drive started strong before being forced to punt. Woodard added a 35-yard barreling score on the ground on this possession for the Knights. The senior signal caller

NOTEPAD: Mercer women start hot; Northeast alum breaks out
The Mercer women’s basketball team started its season hot this week, winning two games at home including a victory against the Georgia Southern Eagles. The Bears first defeated North Greenville in their home opener Monday by a score of 69-41, led by an incredible 24-point effort by Maliyah Lofton. Lofton, a 5-foot-6 freshman hailing from Columbus, Ohio, looked electric while scoring all 24 of her points off the bench with a 9-of-12 shooting line. She should be a critical part of Mercer’s success going forward. Lofton proved as much by contributing again in Mercer’s next game, an impressive 69-61 win over Georgia Southern. She had 10 points, trailing only to returning star Micah O’Dell’s total of 15. Abigail Holtman and Ada Anamekwe also had 10 points. Against Georgia Southern, the Bears shot 41% from the field and used an explosive third quarter to secure the win despite some turnover troubles in the first half. With a 2-0 record and plenty of momentum on offense, Mercer will travel for its first road showdown of the year against Wake Forest on Sunday with tip-off set for 12:30 p.m. Former Northeast star scores three touchdowns in breakout game Former Northeast Raiders running back

Northeast football ready for region title showdown with Callaway
The Northeast Raiders will fight for a second consecutive region championship this Friday, as they are set to take on the Callaway Cavaliers at Thompson Stadium in East Macon at 7:30 p.m. The Raiders defeated Pike County 47-7 last week to improve to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in region play. That win also made this Friday’s regular season finale a region championship game on paper, as Callaway sits in second place with a 5-1 region record — per tiebreaker rules, the Cavaliers would take ownership of first place if they knocked off Northeast. That will be a tough task, as the Raiders have a red-hot offense that has brought state championship dreams to East Macon once again. Led by quarterback Jordan Wiggins, son of head coach Jeremy Wiggins, Northeast’s offense looks even better than it did last year, thanks also in part to a stacked lineup of wideouts including Scottavian Thomas, Duke Tinsley and Jaiden Center. In addition to a variety of threats at receiver, running back Landen Jefferson chips in plenty out of the backfield. Those assets make this 2026 iteration of Northeast perhaps more well-rounded than its run-heavy attack in 2024, when the Raiders made the state title

Baxley brothers lead Wesleyan to Senior Night win over Temple
PEACHTREE CORNERS — Wesleyan defeated Temple 41-20 on Friday, closing out its regular football season with a victory on Senior Night behind strong performances from senior twin brothers Kyle Baxley and Beck Baxley, who each recorded more than 110 all-purpose yards. The Wolves (7-3) controlled much of the game offensively, scoring in all four quarters to secure their sixth win in their last seven games. Wesleyan entered the matchup at 6-3 overall and 4-2 in Region 5-AAA play after a 14-7 road win against KIPP. Temple (3-7) entered at 3-6 overall and 2-4 in region play following a 55-13 loss to Lovett. Wesleyan opened the scoring on its first possession with a 2-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Jameson Hilton. Temple responded with a 31-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Brody Dempsey to senior Devin Tanner, tying the game at 7-7. The Wolves quickly regained the lead after recovering a Temple onside kick. Hilton connected with senior wide receiver Quin Brown and senior wide receiver Gabe Allen to move the offense downfield before Kyle Baxley finished the drive with a 5-yard touchdown, putting Wesleyan back up 14-7. Norcross fighting for playoffs in game at surging Duluth
Norcross’ defense of its position in the state football playoff race is at the forefront of Friday night’s rivalry game with Duluth, which is playing its best late in the season. Heading into the regular-season finale, Norcross sits at No. 29 in the Georgia High School Association’s PSR Power Rankings and among the 32 teams who will qualify for state. A loss to No. 42 Duluth would give the Blue Devils a losing record and would put their playoff hopes in great peril. Norcross has won 18 straight games in the longtime rivalry, including 35-21 last season. Its last loss to the Wildcats came in 2003, well before the current players were born. Maintaining that streak looks tougher with how Duluth has played of late, including back-to-back wins over Hebron Christian and Berkmar. Though the Wildcats lost 40-34 in double overtime to Peachtree Ridge last week, they show considerable moxie in a second-half comeback. Down 21-0 at halftime, they outscored Peachtree Ridge 27-6 over the final two quarters to force OT. There were no shortage of offensive stars for Duluth in that loss. Quarterback Marion Luckett completed 15 of 29 passes for 233 yards and three touchdowns, and rushed for
