La. 1 road upgrades near completion in White Castle
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is nearing completion of upgrades to a stretch of La. 1 through White Castle. Improvements to the corridor include the replacement of drainage structures, repairs to the concrete pavement and other work on part of the Iberville Parish stretch of one of Louisiana’s longest roadways.

Lafayette Parish unveils 18 projects to tackle traffic, growth
A new transportation plan unveiled Monday could put millions of dollars toward some of Lafayette Parish’s most congested and troublesome roads as local officials look for ways to keep up with rapid growth. Called " Commuter Connections ," the parish-wide initiative identifies 18 projects aimed at improving traffic flow, making intersections safer and strengthening connections between Lafayette Parish communities . The proposal comes as local officials warn that the parish’s transportation system will face even greater pressure in the coming decades. Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Blanco Boulet said traffic has become one of the most pressing infrastructure concerns facing the parish, particularly on roads connecting its cities and communities. “We have a very small geographical parish, and some people spend 45 minutes, an hour getting around,” Boulet said during Monday’s announcement. Many of those connecting roads fall under parish responsibility, creating a challenge for local officials who say available resources have not kept pace with the region’s growth. Boulet said Lafayette Parish could add about 50,000 residents by 2050 if current growth continues. “That’s if we stay on pace,” she said. “Growth is a really serious issue.” The proposed Commuter Connections package is designed to address congestion now while preparing the
