Bunkie man sentenced for meth distribution
ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - A man from Bunkie has been sentenced to 21 years and 10 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for the distribution of meth. This charge is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation into the drug trafficking activities of Damien Romain Lavalais.
42-year-old Bunkie man sentenced for meth distribution
Damien Romain Lavalais, 42, of Bunkie was sentenced to nearly 22 years (262 months) in prison on May 31. In July, 2021, an undercover controlled purchase of methamphetamine was coordinated by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Lavalais. Lavalais sold approximately 50 grams of methamphetamine that were later tested in a crime lab and confirmed with 98% purity.

Opelousas DDD to help fund major renovations to Donald Gardner Stadium
The Downtown Development District in Opelousas has secured a bond to help pay for renovations to Donald Gardner Stadium at South City Park. The funding will cover about 70% of the total cost of $6.7 million first phase, which will include renovating the existing stadium space, replacing the visiting restroom and concession facilities and adding a running track around the field. Other sources of funding will be the state of Louisiana, St. Landry Parish government and the city of Opelousas, ODDD officials announced.
Man charged with DUI for fatal Hwy 90 wreck in Biloxi
BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - A Louisiana man is charged with aggravated DUI causing death after a wreck Saturday morning at the intersection of Hwy 90 and Veterans Ave. in Biloxi.
