Rockford residents could chip in to bury 11th Street utility lines
ComEd customers in Rockford could be asked to chip in to bury electrical lines along 11th Street next year as the city begins a three-year reconstruction of the corridor. Burying the lines is expected to cost ComEd about $4.6 million. The utility is allowed under the Illinois Public Utilities Act to recoup that cost from rate payers, Interim Public Works Director Timothy Hinkens said.

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The LZ Peace group welcomes veterans and their families to the Purple Heart Memorial unveiling event. The Purple Heart, created in 1782 by George Washington, is a U.S. military decoration awarded to those wounded or killed in action. Military member that are bestowed with a Purple Heart medal are recognized to have greatly sacrificed themselves, or paid the ultimate price while in the line of duty.

Coroner’s office identifies pedestrian killed at busy Rockford intersection
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office reveals the identity of a pedestrian hit and killed Tuesday night at one of Rockford’s busiest intersections. Tyra Traylor, 47, was walking in the intersection of E. State Street and Perryville Road around 8:15 p.m. when she was hit by a vehicle, according to investigators. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office says the driver of the vehicle stopped and called 911.
