    William Jones pleads guilty to murdering Pinnon’s employee during robbery

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — William Jones, 41, has changed his plea to guilty for shooting and killing Pinnon’s employee Peggy Anderson during a robbery in 2023.

    According to Winnebago County State’s Attorney J. Hanley, Jones pleaded guilty to the charge of First Degree Murder on Friday.

    Jones is accused of killing Anderson on January 11th, 2023. The 63-year-old was shot in the chest during a robbery.

    She was reportedly coming down the back stairway from apartments above Pinnon Meats, 2324 N. Court when Jones attempted to rob her. Anderson was a long-time employee of the store.

    When officers arrived, they found Anderson lying at the bottom of the stairway.

    Jones then fled the scene in Anderson’s car, a black 2021 Toyota, which was later found, abandoned, in the 2000 block of Douglas.

    He was arrested in Alabama nearly a month later.

    In April 2023 , Jones entered a plea of Not Guilty. He changed his plea at a court appearance on Friday.

    First Degree Murder is punishable by up to 60 years in prison.

    Jones is due to be sentenced on June 21st, 2024.
