Fundraiser helps bring ‘blankets of hope’ to cancer patients
MONTICELLO — While yard sales sprung up all over Monticello during the annual citywide garage sale event last Thursday through Saturday, one in particular benefitted a special cause that is near and dear to a local family. NRC discusses safety of local nuclear power plant in 2023
MONTICELLO — Staff from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting last week at the community center to discuss the safety performance of Monticello’s nuclear power plant in 2023, giving few specifics and leaving many questions unanswered. The NRC determined the plant — run by Northern State Power Company, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy — operated safely throughout 2023, which was also the year the public was notified of a tritium leak at the plant. ...
Plymouth fatal crash: Man was playing YouTube video, changing clock, charges say
PLYMOUTH, Minn. (FOX 9) - A Brooklyn Park man is charged with vehicular homicide for a fatal crash that happened on Highway 169 in Plymouth last summer. Pheng Yang, 41, of Brooklyn Park, is charged with one count of criminal vehicular homicide in a crash that took the life of local hairstylist and makeup artist Cristina Restrepo on July 30, 2023. She left behind a 12-year-old son after she died at the hospital.

Sherburne County salutes law enforcement during National Police Week
May 12-18 has been designated as National Police Week in Sherburne County by the County Board of Commissioners, to recognize all law enforcement personnel and to honor the service and sacrifice of those officers killed in the line of duty. Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office Commander Ben Zawacki read the National Police Week 2024 proclamation at the May 7 County Board meeting. The Monticello Senior Center has an enjoyable trip to New Ulm coming up on Wednesday, July 17. The first stop on this trip will be at the Visitors Center, where a local guide will step on the motor coach for a riding tour.
