Students rock Bellevue, play music in personal bands
The demo plays and inspires others in the band to add onto it, eventually creating a song. While many different inspirations brought them all to this, a need of expression that could never be brought forth through just words shook each of these students. All of these students are in personal bands that create music outside of school.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR: I walked alongside 2 survivors through title 9 at UNL: It’s time we stop treating the Cornell 7 as an aberration
The case of the Cornell 7 has recently brought attention to a system that has been hidden in the shadows, Title IX. Much of the coverage, however, has focused on how the specific police department and Title IX staff failed the victim. While this is true, this misses a bigger problem. This was, in fact, the system working as designed. As a person who has walked alongside their friends through this process, it is also the way it works here at UNL.

Stories Coming Left and Right
The Intro to Journalism students have been searching the school for stories to turn into news briefs. These short stories provide important information and share updates that may be useful in the near future. Sophomore Grace Goodrich said the news briefs are important because they “inform the students about information around the school.” A part of this project was to pay more attention to the things around the school. This project also gives new journalists the opportunity to improve their reporting and writing skills. It also allows them to use their creativity by writing something of their own, while still getting information out there. The journalism students interviewed peers and teachers about what is happening around the school. They found information that they may not have known about, like upcoming fundraisers and how some organizations came to the school.

New Eyes, New Ears: Behind the Cameras
The new security cameras at AHS now capture audio as well as video. After the 2025-26 school year, Atlantic High School changed the cameras around the building. The audio feature has raised concerns among students and staff that administrators can now hear hallway conversations, with one staff member noting there can be a lack of trust “if someone is sitting there and watching” the cameras all day. Although no state law prohibits schools from using cameras with audio in hallways, some Iowa schools have adopted policies stating that cameras should not record audio to protect privacy. The matter of whether schools can record audio depends on internal district administration rules and local board policies and not state laws. Still, some schools restrict audio capture to protect student and staff confidentiality. While some schools don’t allow audio recording in buildings, superintendents can allow recording devices in buses and other transportation vehicles to monitor student conduct, which ACSD allows.

West Fork takes down West Hancock to claim first district title
The #9 (A) West Fork Warhawks are district champions for the first time in school history following a victory over West Hancock on Friday night. The Warhawks headed into Week 7 with a tall task to win the district championship as West Hancock was attempting to defend their back-to-back district championships. Adding pressure to the night was a group of Warhawk seniors who have experienced three straight losses to the Eagles, being outscored by a combined 143-20 over the past three seasons. Head Coach Dan Westhoff says the success of a district championship has been the culmination of several people committing to a common goal.
