Ohio high school football playoff win erased after unusual ineligible-player scheme
An unusual situation in Ohio has led to one high school football program having to forfeit its opening playoff win and the losing team getting another opportunity in the postseason. According to a report from Josh Weir of The Canton Repository — part of the USA TODAY Network — Liberty (Youngstown, OH) has been removed from the playoffs after the team used an ineligible player in the team's 26-16 opening round win over Canton Central Catholic. 19News received further information, learning that the disqualification stems from an ineligible player swapping jerseys with an eligible player and playing in the game. The report noted that Canton Central Catholic head coach Jeff Lindesmith was told that a fan of Liberty informed a Canton Central Catholic staff member of the swap. Liberty's athletic director Todd Smith was informed of the situation by that staff member shortly after. Smith later reported the situation to the OHSAA, leading to Liberty's disqualification. The Panthers entered the game with a 10-1 record and with the win, had advanced to a highly-anticipated second-round meeting with unbeaten Perry (OH). Now they'll have to look towards the 2027 season. Meanwhile, Canton Central Catholic (7-4) now gets a new life in

Aurora HS grad and KSU pre-med student has 'had quite the journey'
Considering the medical issues she has faced over the last few years, Cassidy Trem could be forgiven for wanting to take it easy. Instead, the Aurora High School graduate, when she isn't engaged in her premed studies at Kent State University, is running marathons. "I have had quite the journey," said Trem. After a long recovery from a serious traffic accident, she ran the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon while a high school senior in October 2023. And just a couple of months after undergoing the last of three surgeries for a medical condition unrelated to the crash, she ran the Barcelona Marathon in Spain this past March. And to top it off, Trem is preparing to run in the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon on Nov. 7 after recovering from a recent outpatient procedure related to that condition. Trem says that she is determined to fight through her various issues, but admits that at times she has wondered about her various trials. "I just can't believe these things keep happening to me," she said. In connection with the Indianapolis marathon, Trem is fundraising for Ketchup to Cancer , a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2025 by Alex Baker, who began running

Jackson football gets chance to show how far it’s come vs. Hudson
JACKSON TWP. — Jay Rohr heard his Jackson High School football team say all the right things. What the fifth-year head coach saw from the Polar Bears on Aug. 28 didn't match their words. Jackson's 55-35 loss to Hudson back in Week 2 marked a turning point in the 2026 season, and now the Polar Bears find those same Explorers returning to Fife Stadium for a second-round playoff game in Division I, Region 1. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. How far has Jackson come? We're about to find out. Watch Ohio High School Football Live on NFHS Network all year Jackson lost a well-played game against Wadsworth the following week, then won the last seven games of the regular season. It earned its first outright Federal League title since 2001, highlighted by a decisive 30-14 win at Benson Stadium vs. Canton McKinley, and a first-round bye in the playoffs. "We've always talked about going from a good team to a great team," Rohr said. "Going into this season, I felt this group could be a really special group." That notion was challenged early on. Jackson "played OK" in Rohr's words during its season-opening 34-13 win at Chardon. Then
