The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife has confirmed a pregnant female fisher in Ashtabula County. The mammal, found as roadkill in February 2023, did not give birth. However, this discovery indicates that fishers are returning to Ohio. Fishers disappeared from Ohio in the mid-1800s, with the first sighting in 2013. Since then, 40 sightings have been confirmed across nine northeast Ohio counties, mostly in the last three years.
