Clay High School’s (Clay) rendition of “Urinetown" was performed in the auditorium April 18, 19, and 20. “Urinetown" was the final musical put on by Clay’s theatre group. Although bittersweet, many alumni, students, and staff went to support their school’s theatre production one final time.
Job fairs offer personal connections beyond online recruitment
Job fairs still play a solid role in the recruitment efforts of many local employers, even in an era dominated by online job matchmakers. Two job fairs will be in full swing locally this week. The STEM school at Owens Community College is holding a job fair free and open to the public from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Heritage Hall on the Perrysburg campus of the college. Nineteen employers have registered so far, including such notables as First Solar Inc., Taylor Automotive, The Andersons, SSOE, Toledo Tool & Die and Walmart, said Pete Kowal, internship manager at the STEM school.
FAFSA forms creating issues for students, parents, and schools
What was billed as an easier form to fill out has turned worlds upside down for universities, parents, and students. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is a form completed by current and prospective college students — undergraduate and graduate — in the United States to determine eligibility for student financial aid. The FAFSA rolled out in December, which was delayed from the usual opening in October. Gina Roberts, assistant vice president of enrollment management at the University of Toledo, said the FAFSA late rollout and subsequent issues have made the process more difficult for students and schools.
Woodmore Middle School students protest potential leadership change
WOODVILLE, Ohio — Students at Woodmore Middle School staged a walkout Friday afternoon, protesting the potential removal of their principal at the end of the year. More than 60 students spent about 20 minutes on the school's front lawn chanting slogans in support of Principal Kevin Ball before going back inside to resume their classes. Passing cars occasionally honked their horns in support. Concerns about Mr. Ball's continued employment with the district started popping up earlier this week when rumors began circulating that Woodmore Local Schools Superintendent Mary Schaeffer was not going to recommend his contract be renewed. The protest was monitored by school officials and parents while Woodville police kept a watchful eye from afar.

Bath and body shop expands to Perrysburg
She’s always been a chef, though not just in the traditional sense. After years of cooking food and desserts, Krystal Szabo decided to also “cook” bath bombs and soaps when she was 19 years old. “I would go home at night [after work] and just start playing around with this stuff,” she said. “I was very holistic. I was into essential oils. One Christmas, instead of making chocolates and candies and sugar cookies, I decided to make lip balm, bath fizzes, little soaps, and things like that.” Since then, she’s found tremendous success over the past 14 years with Green Bubble Gorgeous, a business that specializes in handmade bath products like bath soaps, fragrances, and lip balms, among others.
Lanes back open on I-75 north beyond I-280 following crash
TOLEDO, Ohio — Vehicles were backed up on I-75 northbound beyond I-280 in Toledo due to a crash Friday afternoon. According to the Ohio Department of Transportation OHGO website, the two right lanes were blocked on I-75 north beyond the Ottawa River Road due to a crash but have since cleared. The incident occurred sometime before 2:30 p.m.
Religious Offerings: Toledoans to observe 73rd annual National Day of Prayer
Thursday is observed as National Day of Prayer in the United States, as established by Congress and signed into law by President Harry Truman in 1952. Toledo Prays invites the community to participate in the observation at Grace Church, 3700 Dorr St., Toledo. “Lift up the word; light up the world” is the theme of the gathering that begins with worship at 6:30 p.m., followed by prayer led by several area pastors until 8:30 p.m. The MultiFaith Council of Northwest Ohio is holding a multifaith prayer event in front of the Lucas County Courthouse, 700 Adams St. in downtown Toledo, from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday. Members of different faiths and no faith will offer prayers and positive intentions for the country and the common good. God’s House International Worship Center is holding a prayer service from 10 a.m. to noon with a focus on “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” The church is located at 1342 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo.
