Missouri Man Charged in Deadly Summer Accident in Northeast Iowa
A Missouri man has been charged in a northeast Iowa incident this past summer that resulted in one person dying. On July 29th, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office responded to Domino Road by the Volga Campground on reports of an accident. Upon investigation, it was discovered that a truck driven by 24-year-old Tucker Baker of St. Joseph, Missouri had accelerated from a parked position at a high rate of speed with two passengers seated on the down tailgate. The two passengers, 24-year-old William Gross and 21-year-old Brett Gross, also from St. Joseph, Missouri, were ejected from the vehicle onto the concrete pavement.

Northeast Iowa Police Officer Injured by Wrong Way Driver Who Was Drunk
A northeast Iowa police officer, injured when his squad car was hit by a wrong way driver, has been identified. The Iowa State Patrol says the collision occurred in Bremer County shortly before 8:30 pm Wednesday night near the intersection of US Highway 63 and 260th Street. 52-year-old Denver Police Officer Timothy Jennings was notified of a driver heading north in the southbound lanes of Highway 63.
A warm start to the workweek but cooler temperatures will return
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) -It was hot again on Sunday with temperatures in the 80s and 90s across Eastern Iowa for the first day of October. More records were broken Sunday afternoon. Cedar Rapids met the record high temperature of 90 degrees. Waterloo broke the previous record of 91 degrees, set in 1897, with a high of 93 on Sunday.

Wrong-way driver hits police vehicle at low speed in Bremer County crash
DENVER, Iowa (KCRG) - Police in Denver, Iowa said a driver going the wrong way hit an officer’s vehicle when the officer tried to stop them on Wednesday night. Police said they were notified of the wrong-way driver on Highway 63 heading northbound in the southbound lanes at around 8:20 p.m.
2 Arrested for Waterloo Shooting
Two 20 year olds were arrested after a shooting early Wednesday morning, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Police allege that Dakota Wells and David Myers approached a home around 2:20 a.m. and became involved in an altercation with the man who lives there. Myers allegedly swung a hammer at the man. The man’s wife then stepped in. That is when Wells allegedly pulled a gun and fired two shots. One of those shots hit the upper left thigh of the man. The man was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries not thought to be life threatening. Myers and Wells were pulled over a short time later. Police found a .22 caliber handgun, marijuana, and seven oxycodone pills in the car. Wells was charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, Reckless Use of a Firearm, Carrying Weapons, Possession of Marijuana, and Unlawful Possession of a Prescription Drug. Myers was charged with Assault While Displaying a Weapon and Carrying Weapons.
Former Nurse Charged with Stealing Drugs
A former nurse at MercyOne/Covenant Hospital in Waterloo has been accused of taking pain medication from at least 50 women in the maternity ward, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 43 year old Christina Olson, also known as Christina Hovey, has been charged with Acquiring a Controlled Substance by Deception, Adulteration of a Drug with Intent to Defraud and Making False Statements in Health Care Matters. Prosecutors say since January of 2022 Olson would access hydromorphone, fentanyl and oxycodone under the guise of filling orders for patients. She would allegedly keep the drugs for personal use and bill the patients insurance companies. This lasted until March of 2022 when a new father noticed they had been charged for drugs his wife never received. The hospital did a drug test on Olson the next day. She tested positive for opiates and marijuana. She admitted the scheme and relinquished her nursing license in August of 2022.
