Black Hawk County Firefighters Battle Field Fire
Area firefighters were busy battling fires on Sunday, as a Red Flag Warning had been posted due to warm temperatures and high winds. Waterloo Fire Rescue, with the help of five other fire departments, battled a large field fire north of Waterloo Sunday afternoon. The fire is believed to have started in a structure along Big Rock Road and spread. The fire was estimated to be about 100 acres in size. Firefighters were able to get that fire under control and no other buildings were damaged. Crews from Denver, Dunkerton, Evansdale, Cedar Falls, and Janesville were on hand to assist.
Teen stabbed in ‘large juvenile fight’ in Waterloo
WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) - Officials are investigating after a 16-year-old was stabbed Thursday evening. Thursday at approximately 6:45 pm, Waterloo Police responded to the 800 block of Park Road for a report of a ‘large juvenile fight’. Police also received a report of a teenage stabbing victim arriving at Mercy Hospital at 7:39 pm. Investigators say they believe the stabbing victim was stabbed in the Park Road incident.

More temperature records broken Sunday afternoon
As February and Meteorological Winter came to a close a handful of records were broken here in Eastern Iowa. Within the final week of February two back-to-back 70s were recorded, setting the record high temperatures for both Monday, February 26th and Tuesday, February 27th. Area Woman Arrested After Early Morning Chase
An area woman was arrested and charged early Tuesday morning following a vehicle pursuit through Cedar Falls and Waterloo. 22-year-old Da Naiza Sallis had a warrant out for her arrest. Cedar Falls Public Safety attempted to stop her vehicle on West First Street around 5:30 Tuesday morning, but Sallis allegedly led officials on a chase. The pursuit ended in Waterloo with the vehicle being located near City View Street. Sallis was not inside the vehicle at the time. Around 20 minutes later, authorities located Sallis and took her into custody. She was charged with eluding, driving while barred and reckless driving. She’s been held on bond.
High Speed Chase Arrest
A Wellman man has been arrested for leading police on a high speed chase through Evansdale and Waterloo on Wednesday night, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to pull over a Nissan Altima for a bad brake light around 7:35pm Wednesday. The Altima sped off, however, hitting curbs and running stop signs before hitting 100 mph in a 55 mph zone. After the driver, later identified as 55 year old Nick Temple, hit stop stick, he continued driving for a time on the rims. Eventually the vehicle came to a stop and Temple tried to run but was taken into custody in the backyard of a home. A search of his car turned up six glass tubes with methamphetamine residue. Temple was charged with Eluding, Interference, and Possession of Meth.

About a Dozen Cows Killed in Northeast Iowa Semi Rollover Crash
About a dozen cattle died early Friday (02.23) morning when a semi crashed in northeast Iowa. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office says the wreck occurred around 3 am Friday near mile marker 50 on Interstate 380. Their investigation determined that Delbert Miller of Stacyville fell asleep at the wheel of his Kenworth semi while traveling northbound.
Arrest for Stabbing Boyfriend
A woman has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in Waterloo in July, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 31 year old Japreia Jones is accused of stabbing Joseph Joyce Jr. during an argument at the couple’s apartment on July 23rd. Joyce suffered multiple stab wounds including two to the back that penetrated a lung. During the scuffle, Joyce allegedly tried to disarm Jones and Jones received a minor stab wound to her chest. Jones was charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury and Domestic Assault With a Weapon. At the time of the stabbing Jones was on probation for an August 2022 incident in which she and two others stole more than $14,000 worth of perfume from an Ulta Beauty in Ames. She was sent to prison for violating probation, accounting for why she was not arrested in relation to the July incident until now.
