    Notes and quotes

    • Notre Dame lost to Denver 11-10 in the 2015 national semifinals, despite holding a 10-7 lead over the Pioneers at the end of the third quarter. Matt Kavanagh — older brother of star attackmen Chris and Pat Kavanagh — had 1 assist in the game.

    • The Irish have won each game by 5 goals or more in the postseason, encompassing the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament. Their average margin of victory is 7.25. Conversely, five of Notre Dame’s 10 regular-season wins (and its only loss) were decided by 3 goals or fewer.

Chris Kavanagh displaced his brother as Notre Dame’s points leader with an 8-point performance against the Hoyas in the national quarterfinals. He set a new program record for most points in an NCAA Tournament game and tied the existing one with 5 goals.

Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan: “What I’ve seen [during the postseason] is what I’ve seen all along. We’ve got a relentless competitiveness about our guys that shows up throughout a game, but it also shows up week to week. Our guys, they love to compete. And they’ve stayed really focused on our development as a team. We don’t measure ourselves against what happened last as much as we measure ourselves against, ‘What are we capable of?'”

Junior faceoff/midfielder Will Lynch: “We’re very close but very far at the same time. We got to take care of Denver first on Saturday, and then we’ll get all eyes looking toward Monday. But no, we’re all juiced up and we’re excited to roll.”

Junior Irish attackman Chris Kavanagh: “You gotta bring it day in and day out. You can’t just expect to go into Saturday and dominate the game. It starts on the practice field here, with the competitive edge. Just bringing it to practice every day is kind of why we excel Saturdays, and hopefully Monday.”
