Inside Boston's Forgotten Subway Tunnel, Rusted Tracks and Cold War Crackers
Beneath the streets of Boston sits a tunnel that hasn't carried a passenger since the 1960s, but still holds the rusted tracks, ventilation fans and switch box from when it helped launch the nation's first subway system. NBC10 Boston went inside the forgotten passage, part of the historic Tremont Street Subway, and found it frozen in time, down to stacked civil-defense ration cans left over from the Cold War.

Dover's 'can opener' Broadway bridge, known for stuck trucks, gets its own T-shirt
DOVER — The Broadway railroad bridge is so notorious for trucks getting stuck underneath, it has been called "the can opener" by some locals and is now featured on a T-shirt. There have been 10 truck strikes at the bridge so far in 2026, according to Dover police Capt. Mark Nadeau. There were six bridge strikes in 2025, seven in 2024 and nine in 2023. Foster's has reported for many years on strikes at the bridge, which was built in 1901. "It's crazy," said Joe Dirusso, who works at Papa Jay's Pizzeria, located very close to the steel truss bridge with a 9-foot, 6-inch clearance. "When it hits the bridge, it kind of sounds like the train ... like a bang of like cargo stopping. It kind of shakes the building. ... We go outside and then we see something hit the bridge." Dirusso said it's usually U-Hauls that hit the bridge, often operated by drivers unaware of the height of the truck they rented. Dirusso said the pizzeria staff hear trucks backing up all day because many truck drivers turn around to avoid getting stuck. Nadeau said this year’s bridge strikes include three U-Haul box trucks, one U.S. Postal

Boston's $2.40 T Ride Ranked Cheapest Subway Fare in the Nation
Boston's subway fare just earned a distinction that has nothing to do with how often the trains run on time: the MBTA is now ranked the most affordable metro system for local riders anywhere in the United States. A $2.40 single ticket on the T works out to just 1.21% of Boston's average daily wage of $198, according to new global research comparing transit costs to local incomes.

Irish Immigrants Helped Build This New Hampshire Railroad Through Solid Granite More Than 175 Years Ago
Irish immigrant laborers helped carve a railroad route through solid granite more than 175 years ago. The historic railroad corridor in New Hampshire eventually became part of...

Sagamore Bridge plan adds two bike, pedestrian railroad crossings
Two new railroad crossings are planned on the south side of the Cape Cod Canal to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety as part of the new $2.1 billion Sagamore Bridge construction plans . The state will hold a hearing on the proposal on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Bourne. Along the canal's south side is a 6 1/2-mile paved service road that is also a bicycle and walking trail . Parallel to the service road are railroad tracks, and south of the tracks are neighborhoods and main roadways. Currently, pedestrians and bicyclists cross the railroad tracks at informal or unauthorized locations that lack appropriate safety protections, according to the state Department of Transportation. The hearing will be held with MassDOT staff and the Barnstable County Board of Regional Commissioners. MassDOT requested the hearing so the county board can determine whether the proposed crossings “should be required as public necessity and convenience,” according to the county notice. The purpose of the new crossings is to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety, accessibility and connections to the Cape Cod Canal South Service Road, according to the notice. The proposed crossings would be at Mid-Cape Connector at Sandwich Road and Keith Field Recreation Area, at
