Poacher faces potential judgment of over $13 million for senseless act
A 20-year-old man suspected of killing nearly 18,000 young salmon at an Oregon fish hatchery was charged with burglary, criminal trespass and criminal mischief, and will be charged with poaching as well. The suspect faces a huge financial penalty and possibly a lifetime fishing ban. The chinook salmon died after a gallon of bleach was poured into one of the four rearing tanks at the hatchery, according to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Coquille man arrested on the charge of DUII after crash
On April 21st at 8:30 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a single-vehicle crash on Fairview Road near milepost 11. Fairview Fire, Coquille Ambulance, and Sgt. Boswell from the Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash. The driver was identified as Tony Florez (20) of Coquille. He had some minor scratches but was otherwise uninjured. During an investigation, Sgt. Boswell had Mr. Florez perform the standardized field sobriety tests and later arrested him on the charge of DUII. Tony Florez (20) was transported to the Coos County Jail for additional testing. Mr. Florez was issued a citation for DUII and released to a sober adult.

Since mid-December, Mingus Park Pool, a staple for swimming recreation in Coos Bay, has been closed. Card making workshop for teens
Teens are invited to the North Bend Public Library to learn how to make DIY cards. This workshop is perfect opportunity for teens to create cards for Teacher Appreciation month, but they are not required to do so. Teens can create thank you cards for teachers or cards for any occasion. Card-making materials, snacks, and drinks will be provided.
