More than a Cafe: The 12-Year Journey to Build “Our Place” at Ben Washer Park
Since 2013, it has been a relentless, 12-year labor of love to fund and create a true sanctuary of connection in Louisville’s historic Limelick neighborhood. It began as a conversation over a decade ago centered on a deteriorating, boarded-up 19th- century building in Ben Washer Park. Today, that historic structure has been fully resurrected and transformed into Our Place— a vibrant, global community cafe that connects neighbors and local traditions through authentic, soul-warming flavors like the signature African Peanut Stew. It stands not just as a cafe, but as a comfortable third space, a place for community and a home to kind, welcoming people.
