Two-year drug investigation leads to arrest of a Heltonville woman
BEDFORD– A two-year Indiana State Police drug investigation resulted in the Friday afternoon arrest of a Heltonville woman. For the last two years, the Indiana State Police received numerous tips that Kendra Banks, 33, of Heltonville, was dealing methamphetamine to Lawrence County citizens. On May 24, 2024, Drug Enforcement Section Detectives initiated a Dealing in Methamphetamine investigation in which Banks was identified as a suspect. DES Detectives used several investigative techniques during the investigation, and on May 29, 2024, Lawrence County Deputy Kenton Carter and Trooper Chance Humphrey initiated a traffic stop following an observed violation. Banks was identified as a passenger. Deputy Carter deployed his K-9 partner Roko for a vehicle sniff and as a result of the investigation, Deputy Carter and Trooper Humphrey located and seized ½ ounce of methamphetamine.

Around 6 a.m., Sergeant Tracy Spencer attempted to stop a Ford Bronco for speeding on State Road 56 between Scottsburg and Salem. The truck was going 20 miles an hour over the speed limit.

MITCHELL— At 1:20 a.m. on Friday, May 31, Mitchell Police Department Officer Steven Britten received a tip about possible drug activity in an apartment on West Main Street. Officers Britten and Kuhlman responded to the apartment they could smell the odor of marijuana. They knocked on the door and 51-year-old Stephanie Bickel answered. Woman issued summons after police found marijuana in her vehicle
BEDFORD – A Bedford woman was detained on Tuesday, May 28th after Bedford Police Officer Landon Jones stopped her vehicle on Mitchell Road. According to a probable cause affidavit, at 8:57 p.m. Officer Jones was on patrol traveling south on Mitchell Road and was approaching 30th Street when he observed a burgundy Jeep approaching his patrol vehicle at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Jeep then abruptly braked and performed a U-turn in the middle of Mitchell Road. BEDFORD – A warrant was issued for the arrest of a Bedford man after police say he violated a protective order several times during the month of May. According to Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Andrew D. Tillett, a woman came to the Sheriff’s Department to report that 45-year-old Matthew Kelley had sent her a text message about visiting their girls. The woman said Kelley wanted the woman to drop off the children, but she texted back she would not because he was “getting high.” He texted back “wait and see.”
