Fentanyl found at Menominee Elementary School
MENOMINEE — A bag of fentanyl was found Monday at the Menominee Elementary School. In a recorded voicemail to parents, Superintendent Drew Buyarski said the drug was found Monday morning in an upstairs hallway at the school. “The area was immediately secured and we took swift, appropriate steps to address the situation and prioritize the safety of our students and our staff,” he said. “At this time, we have been unable to determine where the substance originated, but we are investigating.” Buyarski said student safety is the district’s top priority. In a follow-up email sent to district parents at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Buyarski asked for a team effort and reassured parents that their children are safe. “We are asking for your immediate partnership,” he wrote. “Please talk to your child tonight about the dangers of unverified substances. In situations like this, students often hear or see things first. If your child knows anything about how this entered our building, please urge them to speak up to a trusted staff member. “Please be reassured that our buildings will have an increased security presence and our staff remains on high alert.
