Prosecutors: Fond du Lac woman was killed in drug plot
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) - A woman and a man, both from Fond du Lac, were formally charged Wednesday with the stabbing death of Ashley Ann Calo. Annaka Trudell, 20, is being held on $2 million bond on charges of first-degree intentional homicide by use of a dangerous weapon and party to the crime of a conspiracy to commit armed robbery with use of force.

2-28-24 longtime fdl school district principal retiring
A longtime Fond du Lac School District principal is stepping down. Woodworth Middle School principal Timothy Schipper is retiring at the end of the school year after 28 years in the school district. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Fleig says Schipper started in the District as a science teacher at Woodworth Middle School and was also a coach for multiple sports at both the middle and high school level. Dr. Fleig says Schipper loves his students and they love him. “…and they all know him and he knows all of them by name,” Dr. Fleig told WFDL news. “He’s pretty amazing at what he does, and I’m excited for him and really happy for him.”

FOND DU LAC — A 58-year-old Fond du Lac man was convicted of homicide Feb. 23 for the death of Jacquelyn Jo Rooney, 51, in 2022. After a five-day trial and 40 minutes of deliberation, the jury found Gary E. Davis guilty of first-degree intentional homicide with a dangerous weapon, mayhem with a dangerous weapon and hiding a corpse, all of which have a "repeater" modifier. ...

The 18-year-old Fond du Lac man who was on the run for four months last year while fleeing from murder charges in Fond du Lac County, has been bound over for trial. Antonio Johnston was in court for a preliminary hearing last Friday. Johnston and 15-year-old Parise Larry, Jr. are suspected in a shooting at the Maplewood Commons Apartments in Fond du Lac on May 7th of last year. According to the criminal complaint they were confronting someone there and 20-year-old Tatyanna Zech who was taking out garbage was hit by gunfire. She died and several others were wounded in the gang-related shooting. Johnston has been charged with eight felonies including first -degree intentional homicide and attempted first-degree intentional homicide. All eight charges are enhanced with modifiers for use of a dangerous weapon and violent crime in a school zone. The shooting took place near Pier Elementary School and Theisen Middle School. Johnston will be arraigned on March 21st. Larry will be arraigned one day later. (Fond du Lac County Jail photo).
High-Voltage Lines Project to Improve Plymouth Utility Reliability Up for Public Comment
A project proposed by American Transmission Company to construct a new high-voltage transmission line in rural Sheboygan County is up for public review and comment with the Public Service Commission. Plans by Plymouth Utilities to build a new substation needed to ensure reliability of its distribution system resulted in the need for the new lines in the Towns of Lyndon and Mitchell. That will require new rights-of-way averaging 80 feet wide. A main route as well as an alternate have been proposed, with nearly all stretches of both within natural areas that don’t impact residential developments, and the towers would have a weathered steel finish that blends better with the environment than others.

The Fond du Lac city council this week is considering a TNR policy to deal with a feral cat population. Under a trap, neuter, return program, feral cats are trapped, vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and returned to the area where they were trapped. City manager Joe Moore says he believes the policy is compatible with the city’s Bird City status, but also will put the feral cat population in check. The issue has come to light following what animal rescue organizations say has been an explosion of the feral cat population in the city in recent years.
