    Raleigh County voters pass fire levy

    BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Raleigh County voters passed a fire levy on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, which is expected to put around $3.5 million into local fire department operations.

    Fire officials have said the levy will be used to support 13 volunteer fire departments in the county, along with Beckley Fire Department.

    Firefighters increasingly provide EMS transport services, according to fire officials.

    “I’m elated. I’m thankful for the voters, again, this is the highest we’ve ever seen it passed by, that the public continued helping us help them,” Raleigh County Fire Levy Coordinator Jason Whiting said on Tuesday, after all precincts in Raleigh County had reported and he had noted the passage of the five levy.

    Levy funds could be used to build substations for Whitesville and Beaver volunteer fire department, but Whiting said on Tuesday that the final decision had not yet been made.
