CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Primary Election on Tuesday saw a number of shifts in leadership set into motion, with the victory of Republican candidate Stanley S. Adkins over incumbent Heather Tully having been among them.

The contest for the Republican nomination for the House of Delegates seat representing the 49th District was closely contested, with challenger Stanley Adkins edging out House Health and Human Resources
Committee on Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Services
Education Vice Chair, Heather Tully by just over 200 votes.

“It has been an honor to serve in the WV House of Delegates 49th District. Your support and trust have been the driving force behind my work, and I am grateful for the opportunity to represent our community,” said Tully on Monday, prior to the finalizing of the election. “I will continue to work tirelessly for the betterment of our district and its residents. Together, we have made strides and faced challenges, but our shared commitment to progress will always guide us forward.”

Notably, Tully expressed her intention to resign from the Nicholas County Republican Executive Committee effective May 22, 2024. This development was also confirmed prior to Tuesday’s Primary election vote.

“This decision does not come lightly,” she said. “I will remain steadfast in upholding the Republican ideals which have brought our state so far in such a short period of time.”

The victory will lead Adkins to the November Primary Election, where he will face off against Democratic candidate Jean Nutter, who secured the Democratic nomination to represent the 49th District in the House after an unopposed run.

“Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence!,” said Nutter following the win. “I will be working hard this summer.”

The 49th District comprises Nicholas County.
