On Friday evening at 7:40 p.m., the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office received a call of shots fired near the area of sports fields at West Yadkin Elementary School. It was reported that fired rounds had impacted a building on the campus during a sports event.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the area and found evidence of the rounds hitting a concession stand. From that evidence they were able to determine a direction, then location from which the shots were fired. At the originating location deputies also found evidence of the shots having been fired.

At that location three juveniles that were home alone at the time of the incident were identified. While deputies were on the scene a parent/adult in control of the property arrived at the location. A search warrant was obtained for the residence in question which resulted in deputies locating the firearm that was used to fire the shots.

Salomon Maya Osorio, age 39 of Hamptonville, was arrested and charged with violating North Carolina General Statute 14-315.1 (regarding the storage of the firearm and the accessing thereof by a minor who used it in the commission of a crime). Osorio received a $5,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in Yadkin County District Court on June 12.

Because of the involvement of a juvenile no further details will be released at this time. A statement from the Sheriff’s Office noted that, “this was found to be an isolated, albeit reckless incident with no further threat to public safety.”
