LIST: School delays in central Alabama for May 9

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Several schools across central Alabama announced they will be delayed Thursday due to possible severe weather.

Severe storms re-develop across North Alabama early this morning and slide Southeast. These storms will be in an environment very supportive of damaging winds, large hail, and frequent lightning.

A lull in the storms is expected this afternoon as wave one moves out and the atmosphere recovers. However, scattered strong to severe storms re-develop across Central Alabama this evening and tonight as the atmosphere recovers from the morning wave of storms. The atmosphere will be incredibly unstable, meaning storms will have a tremendous amount of energy to tap in to.

Below is a list of schools opting to delay school Thursday morning:

BLOUNT COUNTY SCHOOLS

• 3 HOUR DELAY – BUSES OPERATING ON 3 HOUR DELAY

MARION COUNTY SCHOOLS

• 2 HOUR DELAY

SUMITON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

• 2 HOUR DELAY

WINSTON COUNTY SCHOOLS

• 2 HOUR DELAY
