Some stronger storms possible in southwest Minnesota Wednesday

    By Joe Nelson,

The Twin Cities should remain dry with abundant sunshine, lighter winds and temps in the mid-70s Wednesday, but areas of southwestern Minnesota could see some stronger thunderstorms pop amid the afternoon heating.

Check out the simulated future radar for 1 p.m. through midnight. You can see some stronger cells popping in southwestern Minnesota during the afternoon. The more intense storms could warrant severe warnings.

"Shear is somewhat lacking per forecast soundings, but the most vigorous updrafts could still produce marginally severe hail and strong winds. Locally heavy rainfall is also possible," the National Weather Service says.

The Storm Prediction Center has also placed a 2% tornado chance in southwestern Minnesota, though as the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities says, updrafts won't be very strong so tornadoes, if they were to spin up, would probably be short-lived.
