According to the fire marshal’s office, the cause of the fire has been deemed “undetermined,” but investigators believe it was “most likely accidental due to an electrical malfunction.

The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office says this incident was the first of three fatal fires within four days. An 81-year-old man died in an early-morning fire Saturday in Rock Cave in Upshur County, and a 56-year-old woman was killed in a fire at an apartment complex in Hurricane Monday morning. Investigators say the Rock Cave fire has also been ruled accidental and the Hurricane fire remains under investigation.
