LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – A traffic stop Thursday afternoon in Liberty County ended in a fiery wreck.

Two people were transported to local hospitals.

According to Georgia State Patrol Trooper Christopher Ashdown, a Liberty County deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a blue BMW on Leroy Coffer Highway shortly after 12:30 p.m. in the direction of U.S. 84.

Ashdown said the driver of the vehicle did not pull over and as he began to enter the intersection of Leroy Coffer and U.S. 84, he struck a Ford F-350 pulling a trailer.

The BMW then burst into flames. The driver of the BMW exited the vehicle and ran into the wood line where he was later arrested.

The BMW driver complained of not being able to breathe.

He was flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah and the F-350 driver was taken to Wayne Memorial in Jesup.

Several charges are pending against the BMW driver.
