TAZEWELL, VA (LOOTPRESS) – The Tazewell County Board of Supervisors announced a donor has made a generous contribution to fund free tuition for Tazewell County high school seniors attending Southwest Community College (SWCC) this fall.
The philanthropic gesture aims to support the educational aspirations of local students and provide them with opportunities for academic success and ensuring financial barriers do not hinder their pursuit of higher education. The donor’s identity will be disclosed at a later date in coordination with the donor.
Expressing gratitude for this generous support, Board Chairman Andy Hrovatic remarked, “We extend our sincere appreciation for the commitment to providing free tuition for high school students across our county.
This initiative will undoubtedly leave a profound impact on our community’s youth, unlocking pathways to a brighter future through sustained education and professional growth.”
While the donation will support the free tuition program for the Class of 2024, Tazewell County is actively seeking additional donors to sustain and expand the initiative. The Board of Supervisors invites individuals and organizations who share a passion for education and community development to join in supporting this worthy cause.
County Administrator Eric Young stated “We were disheartened to have to cut this program from our Budget earlier this year, but inflationary pressures in other core services left us little choice. Our board was excited to learn that a private entity was willing to cover the class of 2024 for us.
The donor’s identity will be made public at a later date. However, the board is cognizant that students are selecting their college right now and we needed to get this information out right away. We continue to look for other partners to help pay for future classes of high school graduates.”
