WAYNE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS)—On Monday, April 15, the US National Weather Service Charleston, WV, officially recognized the Wayne County Commission and the Wayne County Office of Emergency Management as a Storm-Ready County.

StormReady counties are better prepared to save lives from the onslaught of severe weather through advanced planning, education, and awareness. No community is stormproof, but StormReady can help communities save lives.

Over the past three years, Wayne County has improved its state of preparedness by:

1) Install NOAA weather radios in all schools, fire departments, town/city halls, and police departments.

2) Installing weather stations at several locations across the county that can be monitored by the NWS.

3) Purchasing and installing an Early Warning System that can notify the public of severe weather events by cell phone, home phone, email, and/or social media.

4) Linking the Charleston NWS directly to our dispatch center so that they can receive emergency weather information at the same time that we dispatch local responders. This enables them to activate the NOAA Emergency Alert System with storm-related information if needed.
