    Tennessee State News by River Lange-Wright

    A motorcyclist killed when a pickup truck pulled into his path on Murfreesboro Pike at Glengarry Drive is identified as a 39-year-old Antioch man. Efforts to locate his family have been unsuccessful thus far.

    The pickup truck driver, who left the scene of the collision but called in a short time later from his apartment complex on Winthorne Drive, is identified as Manuel Rivas-Castaneda, 18.

    He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment of non-critical injuries. Rivas-Castaneda smelled of alcohol and admitted to drinking at a party prior to the crash. He was arrested this afternoon upon his release from the hospital and is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication, leaving the scene of a crash involving death, failure to render aid, and driving without a license.

    Rivas-Castaneda is being held in lieu of a $108,000 bond.

    The investigation into the crash shows that:

    • The victim was riding his 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle outbound on Murfreesboro Pike;
    • Rivas-Castaneda was traveling inbound in a 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck.
    • The GMC made a left turn to proceed onto Glengarry Drive.
    • The motorcycle collided into the side of the pickup truck.
    • The victim died shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt.
    • A passenger riding with Rivas-Castaneda was not critically hurt
