She was allegedly heavily involved in the money laundering side of the cartel's business.

The wife of Sinaloa cartel kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has plead guilty to a whole smattering of charges – most of them being “an accessory” to her husband’s crimes. That is, she aided him in the machinations of running the Sinaloa Cartel.

Emma Coronel Aispuro was arrested at Dulles Airport in Virginia last Friday. Per recently unsealed court documents. She is accused primarily of aiding her husband on some specific cartel cashflows. Particularly, marijuana, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and heroin. Aispuro also stands accused of money laundering as she reportedly handled a lot of the Cartel’s cash.

In 2017, Joaquin Guzmán Loera (alias “El Chapo”) was arrested in Mexico by the federales and extradited true north to the U.S. in 2017 to stand trial. This was after he had already executed two successful escapes from Mexican prisons.

He received a sentence of life in prison plus 30 years for running a criminal enterprise, drug trafficking, weapons charges, and straight-up racketeering as the head of the Sinaloas in 2017.

El Chapo is currently at the federal super-max facility in Florence Colorado. He is neighbors with the likes of the Unabomber (Ted Kaczynski) and angel of death serial killer, former doctor, Michael Swango who killed some four to 60 people who were in his care.

Aispuro is a former beauty queen from Mexico who still carries a deep and abiding interest in fashion. She was forced to trade in her pomp and pageantry for a green federal prison jumpsuit.
