It’s no secret that Publix has been on a real estate shopping spree in Florida lately, snapping up shopping centers left and right. But could this mean that the beloved grocery chain is planning to open some next-level "mega" stores? Some Floridians sure think so, and the buzz is growing louder.

If you’ve been keeping an eye on Publix, you’ve probably noticed that the chain has listed 21 new Florida stores as “coming soon” on its website. On top of that, the company has been busy buying out landlords at several key locations. For instance, they dropped $59 million to acquire The Ramblewood Square Shopping Center in Coral Springs and shelled out a cool $83 million for the Davie Shopping Center and Regency Square at Broward. These big moves are fueling speculation that Publix might be planning something big — like "mega" stores.

The Miami New Times recently speculated that these mega stores could be headed to Broward County, thanks to Publix’s major purchases in the area. According to the publication, "These purchases could mean that the chain is planning on renovating or expanding said existing stores, further confirming rumors of mega stores slowly opening across the state..."

So, what exactly is a Publix "mega" store? If you haven’t seen one yet, you’re in for a treat. These larger-than-usual stores feature all kinds of cool amenities that go way beyond your typical grocery run. Picture this: burrito bars, sushi bars, wine bars, poke bowl stations, smoothie bars, and even coffee bars. Some locations even have hot pizza and popcorn stations. And we can’t forget the newest addition — Pours Cafe — where you can grab a fresh drink to go along with your meal. It’s like a foodie’s dream come true!

One of these enhanced Publix stores at the Gandy Shopping Center in Tampa recently went viral for its unique offerings. Another one is located at Wesley Chapel’s Innovation Springs, earning an impressive 4.6 stars on Google reviews.

Some of these mega stores even boast a second-floor dining area, giving shoppers a space to relax and enjoy their freshly prepared food without rushing home.

While Publix hasn’t officially confirmed where the next mega store will pop up, many believe the recent real estate purchases in Davie and Coral Springs point to possible expansion or major renovations. It’s certainly fun to speculate about where these enhanced stores could land next!

So, what do you think? Is Florida about to get more Publix mega stores with all the bells and whistles? One thing’s for sure: Publix is always looking for ways to make grocery shopping more enjoyable, and these mega stores could be just the next step. Keep your eyes peeled—your neighborhood Publix might be getting a serious upgrade!

Sounds like a solid business plan. I hate shopping at Walmart no one speaks English, shoppers are rude, never enough cashiers, great value products are not of the same quality. Winn Dixie is too far away, i actually pass several Publix stores before I can even get to Winn Dixie. If Publix is purchasing old shopping centers and repurposing them I like the idea. Anything is better than building a new shopping center and letting old ones just sit there vacant.
