How about going on a walk with your furry friend and enjoying some fresh air? As regular walking is good for your health, it will also keep your dog healthy and happy. If you have a picturesque location around, it will be the perfect icing on the cake.

There are many places in Houston, along with the dog parks, where you can take your pet on a walk. However, dog owners should be extremely careful while visiting these sites. Many of these places are flocked by trail users, including joggers, walkers, runners, and cyclists in large numbers.

Here, we will discuss some of the best places to walk your dog in Houston.

    Houston Arboretum & Nature Center

Location: 4501 Woodway Drive, Houston, TX 77024

Houston Arboretum is probably the best place where you can enjoy a walk with your dog. The place is adequately shaded and comfortably cool in the summer, thanks to the trees overhead. It is just a few hundred yards away from the busiest and most crowded highways in Houston, the West Loop. But once you enter the park, you won’t believe it!

Entry to the grounds and nature center building is completely free. Do not forget to keep your dog on a leash while taking a walk between 7 a.m to 7 p.m. The furry ones can walk on the trails or on the tiled areas of the nature center.

You can enjoy a walk with your pooch around the large outer loop trail for a revitalizing two-mile walk. You can choose some of the inner trails if you are looking for a shorter stroll. Further, there are fountains and restrooms at the nature center for the convenience of the visitors.

Terry Hershey Park Hike and Bike Trails

Location: 15200 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079

Terry Hershey is a park, but it is more popular as an area for running and biking owing to its trails. These trails are also perfect for pets and your dog can enjoy a walk on the leash there. However, dog owners need to be careful about the frequently passing bikes on these trails. The cyclists, though, use bells or vocal signals to make you aware when they are behind you.

This park’s miles of meander trail along the far west side of Houston will allow you and your pet to enjoy the company of nature. The many miles of trails will allow you to explore something new every time you take a walk with your dog.

Faulkey Gully Hike and Bike Trail

Location: Lakewood Forest Drive, Houston, TX 77379

Are you looking for a smooth trail that is ideal for your pet? Then, choose the Faulkey Gully trail. The trail is further blacktop-coated and perfect for scooters, bikes, walkers and, of course, the pets can have a gala time there.

You need to keep your dog on a leash (less than 6 feet in length) while taking a walk along the trail. The trail meanders behind a neighborhood and there is a safe underpass to cross the road as you reach Louetta Road. The entire trail is 1.9 miles in length, and the Louetta Road works as the boundary between two approximately one-mile segments of the trail.

Most part of the trail is not shaded, and hence you should take your dog for a walk there in the morning or in the evening before sunset. If you are traveling by car, you can park it at the Heatherwood Clubhouse on Willow Branch Drive.

There are also some other places in Houston where your furry friend can enjoy some fun time. Those places include Buffalo Bayou Park, Clay Family Eastern Glades, Hermann Park Conservancy, and others.
