NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A 73-year-old man was hospitalized after he was thrown to the ground, beaten and robbed by a group of suspects in Queens early Tuesday morning, the NYPD said.

The 73-year-old victim was walking near 79th Street and 37th Avenue in Jackson Heights at about 3:10 a.m. when a stranger approached him and demanded cash.

Police said that the suspect pulled a knife while three other unknown men approached from behind and shoved the victim to the ground.

The robbery team kicked and punched the victim before snatching his wallet, which contained $80 and his ID cards, and fleeing southbound on 79th Street.

EMS rushed the 73-year-old to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst with a severe laceration to the head, officials said. He also suffered pain and bruising throughout his body.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
