Shawnee Optimist Club awards area students and announces educator of the year
ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Shawnee Optimist Club met Wednesday to recognize the hard work of local students. Every year, the Shawnee Optimist Club holds an essay contest for middle school students to write an essay on optimism with a topic of their choosing. The students recognized were the top essays picked in the contest, and they read their speeches to the audience, conveying their perception of optimism and how it can change our lives.

Searchers find body of man missing since January
CROOKSVILLE — On Wednesday, April 24, at around 1:15 p.m., the Perry County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and advised that Kaleb Russell had been discovered deceased in the crawl space beneath a home located at 700 Ceramic Road. Russell had been reported missing on Jan. 19. Deputies promptly responded to the scene and confirmed the presence of a deceased male, later positively identified as Russell. Russell’s body was discovered by volunteers aiding the family in the search for him. At the request of the family, an autopsy will not be performed, and his remains released to the family. No foul play is suspected. The Crooksville Police Department remains the lead investigating agency in the case. NELSONVILLE — During a Wednesday meeting, the Athens-Hocking Solid Waste District (AHSWD) board looked at purchasing the building and infrastructure of the struggling Athens-Hocking Recycling Center and joining regional Southeast Ohio Regional Terminal Council of Government (COG), an organization that is just getting off the ground.
