State Disabilities Council announces grant opportunities
The Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council announced on Monday the availability of $216,000 in federal grant funds for projects that promote systems change, capacity building and advocacy for people with developmental disabilities. 4-H club news
The fifth meeting of the Zion Valley Squealers took place on April 21. Throughout the meeting, members were informed that there will be an opportunity to donate canned goods at the Perry County Fair this year. In addition, the club was also notified that there will be a new wash rack for hogs, and they will be moved to where the lambs and goats were previously held. Non-perishable items for the AmVets soldiers were collected, and towards the end of the meeting, the group gathered and got a picture with their donations. Searchers find body of man missing since January
CROOKSVILLE — On Wednesday, April 24, at around 1:15 p.m., the Perry County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and advised that Kaleb Russell had been discovered deceased in the crawl space beneath a home located at 700 Ceramic Road. Russell had been reported missing on Jan. 19. Deputies promptly responded to the scene and confirmed the presence of a deceased male, later positively identified as Russell. Russell’s body was discovered by volunteers aiding the family in the search for him. At the request of the family, an autopsy will not be performed, and his remains released to the family. No foul play is suspected. The Crooksville Police Department remains the lead investigating agency in the case. THORNVILLE — Perry County has had a park district since 1996, but according to district Naturalist Jessie Bennett, this might still come as news to some county residents. “Unfortunately, we’re still in the phase where a lot of people in Perry County don’t know that we have a park district,” Bennett told attendees at a Perry County Chamber of Commerce luncheon held April 16 at Horvath Harbor in Thornville. “So that’s my main goal, to try to remedy that.” ...

Emergency response exercise set for Crooksville Saturday
CROOKSVILLE — Perry County first responders will be running a full-scale emergency response exercise from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Crooksville on Saturday, April 27. The training exercise, which will simulate a hazardous materials emergency, will involve 911 dispatchers, fire departments, EMS agencies, law enforcement and other local, county and regional partners. It will take place at the Crooksville Recreation Center and areas around Amerine Street south of the village’s business area. Expect to see lights, multiple emergency vehicles and responders.Typical services to Perry County by all participants will continue during the event. In 1873 the paper was moved to the county seat, renamed the New Lexington Tribune, and then later became the Perry County Tribune.
