NEW LEXINGTON — Spring has well and truly sprung, which means that an annual spring tradition going back over 30 years, the Perry County Tribune’s ever-popular Home and Garden Show, is in the offing.

This year the show will take place once again in the Perry County Fairgrounds coliseum on state Route 37W in New Lexington. The dates are this Friday and Saturday, May 3-4, from 3-7 p.m. Friday, and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday.

“I always look forward to staffing the Tribune’s booth at the home and garden show,” said Brenda Carney, the paper’s general manager and ad director. “You’ll see people who have been coming to it for years, as well as people checking it out for the first time. And nobody goes home empty-handed. If you’re putting in a garden, fixing up your home or yard, or even looking for a gift for Mom on Mother’s Day, it’s where you want to be this weekend. ”

The event, a joint venture of the Tribune, The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and the OSU Extension’s Master Gardeners, and is being presented by National Telehealth Solutions, Peoples State Bank and the Southern Perry Incubation Center for Entrepreneurs (SPICE).

As always, admission and parking are both free, and door prizes will be awarded in abundance. The Tribune will be giving away a three-piece patio furniture set, a two-tier wooden water fountain and two anti-gravity chairs; stop by the paper’s booth to register for a chance to win.

WLOH The Wolf country radio will be on hand, broadcasting live from the show on both days. The station can be heard at 104.5 FM in Fairfield County; 102.9 FM in Perry County; 99.3 FM in Hocking County; and 101.9 FM in Pickaway County. Also in attendance will be the Community Heart Watch CPR Mobile Training Unit.

Probably the main draw, though, is the opportunity to browse a cornucopia of goods and services for the home and garden, including flowers, shrubs and other plants, garden items, home improvement materials, and more. There will be independent consultants on site to offer advice on any home and garden issues. .

Ted Wiseman, an extension educator and assistant professor with OSU Perry County Extension, has been involved with the event for much of its existence. “The Perry County Home & Garden Show originated as a plant sale organized by local garden clubs and the Perry County Master Gardeners,” he explained. “Over the course of two decades, this event has expanded, spotlighting area businesses and now takes place annually at the Perry County Fairgrounds. Stop and visit with the Perry County Master Gardeners for any gardening questions you may have.”
