(SAN FRANCISCO) Police in San Francisco arrested a convicted felon involved in a road-rage shooting in the city's Bayview District last month that injured two people, the San Francisco Police Department announced on Monday.

On March 18, around 3:05 p.m., officers from SFPD's Bayview Station responded to a report of a shooting in the area of Thomas Avenue and Quint Street. Officers spoke to witnesses who heard gunfire and saw two vehicles drive away at high speeds.

A 25-year-old male driver and a 13-year-old male juvenile, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were privately transported to a hospital. The driver was shot and treated for life-threatening injuries. The juvenile was not shot, but he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators connected the two incidents and determined the shooting was derived from a minor collision and road rage at 3rd Street and Palou Avenue.

The shooter, 24-year-old Evonta Bailey of San Francisco, armed himself with an automatic rifle after the car crash. Bailey located the victims and their vehicle and fired several rounds at them. He then ran to another vehicle being driven by a second suspect and took off.

On March 31, Bailey was taken into custody on the 1400 block of San Leandro Boulevard in San Leandro. He was wearing a court-ordered ankle monitor as a requirement of his federal probation. SFPD previously arrested Bailey in June of 2019 after he brought a concealed firearm to the San Francisco Pride Parade.

Bailey was transported to San Francisco County Jail and booked on charges of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of an assault weapon.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD's tip line at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 with "SFPD" to start the text message.
