Records: National president of Ugly Man Cossacks arrested in connection to murder
SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A Kemp man was arrested Tuesday in suspicion of leading an outlaw motorcycle club in the murder of an East Texas motorcyclist. Kevin Dale Higgins, 57, was charged with direct street gang activities, a first degree felony, in connection with the motorcycle club Ugly Man Cossacks. The Cossacks have been reported on for the murder of Brandon Edwards, of Ben Wheeler, who was shot to death in Arp on May 2, 2022, for his membership in a rival club. According to an affidavit for Chad Michael Crowell, 38, of Eustace, Higgins is believed to be the national president of the Ugly Man Cossacks, and ultimately gave the order that resulted in Edwards’ death.
Eustace barrel racer wins over $10,000 at San Angelo rodeo
SAN ANGELO, Texas (KLTV) - A barrel racer from Eustace won over $10,000 over several performances in San Angelo last week. Shelley Morgan, 51, placed fourth in round one of barrel racing at the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo with a time of 16.09 seconds. The placement earned her $3,383, followed by $5,736 for her fourth-place finish in the average. She placed third in the finals with 14.20 seconds for another $1,716, bringing her to a total of $10,835 for the show.

Crews put out shed fire in Winona, protecting nearby animals
WINONA, Texas (KLTV) - Around 10:30 a.m., Smith County EMS received a call about a structure fire in Winona. The incident took place in the 19600 block of FM 1252. When crews arrived on scene, a storage shed was completely engulfed in flames, close to a group of homes. Smith County Fire was able to get the situation under control, limiting the damage to the shed only and preventing any other building from being damaged.
