A Rains County man was killed early Saturday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Van Zandt County. State Troopers report that 22-year-old Kody Pounds of Emory was westbound on Hwy 64 near Myrtle Springs at about 1:10 am when he ran off the road into a ditch and then struck a tree. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Wenceslao “Lightning” Aguilera, 29, placed first in round one of team roping at the Stockyards Pro Rodeo on Thursday. Aguilera completed the round with a time of 4.0 seconds, earning a $1,073 payday. The guest speaker was John Kaiser, Executive Director of the Warehouse Living Arts Center Theater and Gallery (WLAC) located in historic downtown Corsicana at 119 W. 6th Ave. John Kaiser was born in California; moved to Mildred at an early age, where he spent his first few years of school; attended high school in Colorado a couple of years, where he discovered acting; and graduated from Corsicana High School in 1995. Kaiser was first involved with WLAC in 1995 when he was cast as Peewee Drummond in the musical, Meet Me in St. Louis. He is in his fifth year as Executive Director.
