'Generous' Moss tax plan is unfair to Elmira | Guest Viewpoint
Chemung County Executive Christopher Moss recently announced his “generous” plan to split sales tax revenue with county municipalities, and bragged that he had held the line on property taxes. As is so often the case with Mr. Moss, these are half truths at best. Under Mr. Moss, Chemung County has steadily cut sales tax revenue sharing with local municipalities. This forces city and town governments to increase their property taxes, allowing the Moss Administration to spend without political repercussions. Under Mr. Moss, the county has repeatedly cancelled the shared service agreements that were supposed to justify the county’s retention of more sales tax revenue. The County Legislature finally

Longtime Hornell business owners launch downtown artisan sandwich shop
Long-time Hornell restaurant owners Krissy and Ryan Bale are authoring a new career chapter. After running the popular Paddy's Pub and Grill on Broadway for nearly 15 years, the couple are preparing to open a new breakfast and lunch restaurant at 120 Main St. in downtown Hornell. Call it a "fresh" start for the Bales, who have been married for 20 years. The Herb n’ Spice Sandwich Co. will feature generously filled artisan sandwiches made with meats roasted and cooked in-house, fresh-baked bread, house-made sauces and hummus, and plenty of fresh ingredients. Breakfast favorites will include pancakes, eggs, and in house-made hash brown patties, while sweet treats will include cinnamon rolls, blueberry muffins, cookie clouds, and cheesecakes. Customers can also look forward each day to at least two varieties of Ryan Bale's homemade soups and a fully stocked salad bar. Paddy's Pub 2.0 this is not. While the Bales say they cherished their time as the owners of Paddy's as well as the friendships and relationships they built there, it was time to take on a new challenge. “When we bought Paddy’s, it was established so we kind of picked up where (previous owner) Lee Kendall left off.
