    30 YEARS AGO: MAY 26, 1994

    • Monticello Township alleged a conflict of interest in a 160-acre annexation because councilmember Patty Olsen’s business connections allegedly “clouded” the annexation. Olsen’s job at the time was that of a real estate representative.

    • The Monticello High School boys track team was crowned the State AA champions at the state true team track meet at the National Sports Center in Blaine. The boys edged Stillwater by 3 1/2 points.

    • Structured play by a team of 9- and 10-year-old baseball players at Country Club Manor field resulted in a petition signed by 57 people being presented at a city council meeting.

    • Mailbox bombs were showing up in town. In two instances, two mailboxes on the west side of town were blown up by pop bottle bombs

    • A 19-year-old Monticello woman suffered severe injuries in a hit-and-run accident in Zimmerman.

    • At the Monticello Theater: “With Honors,” “Maverick,” “Beverly Hills Cop 3”

    15 YEARS AGO: MAY 21, 2009

    • It was announced that longtime Monticello nuclear power plant employee Brad Sawatzke was moving to Red Wing to take over as site director of the Prairie Island nuclear power plant.

    • Reports suggested that the state health and human services omnibus bill at the Legislature contained $400 million in cuts, which was going to result in a 20.3% decrease in state aid to the Monticello-Big Lake Hospital.

    • The first-ever farmers market in the parking lot of the Monticello Public Library was held on Thursday, May 14.

    • Mark and Lisa Anderson, who a year earlier lost their home to a fire, were hosting a motorcycle and classic car run to benefit the Monticello Fire Department.

    • ADS: Osowski’s Orchard Flea Market was gearing up for its big Memorial Day weekend by adding two days of live music and the serving of breakfast.

    • On the monster screen at the Monticello Theater: “Night at the Museum” and “Terminator Salvation”
