Alabama Fraternal Order of Police holds memorial service for 3 law enforcement officers

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — Law enforcement and families gathered at the Alabama State Capitol on Friday to honor three fallen police officers.

A memorial service was held to remember the lives of Huntsville police officer Garrett Crumby, Mobile Port Authority officer Kimberly Sickafoose and Montgomery police officer Carlos Taylor.

Family members pinned a flower of remembrance onto a wreath. A 21-gun salute echoed through the streets of Montgomery after Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall and Gov. Kay Ivey spoke to family members.

Marshall said the ultimate sacrifice of police officers is a daily commitment.

“And let us not forget the sacrifices of the families of law enforcement who wake up nights waiting for their loved ones return,” Marshall said.

“Over 15,000 men and women put on a law enforcement uniform in Alabama each day,” Ivey said.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Secretary Hal Taylor said the legacy of these fallen officers is marked by integrity.

“To give what they gave — the ultimate sacrifice — is a true testament to what law enforcement do every day when they go to work,” Taylor said.

Mahogany Taylor is Carlos Taylor’s sister. She said the turnout to this memorial service meant a lot to her. She also had a message for officers serving in the state.

“Love your brothers, love your family,” Mahogany Taylor said. “Cherish family at home. I know you probably would see more of your fellow blueline, but remember to cherish your family. And love ’em cause you never know.”
