MONETT, Mo. – The tornado that touched down in Monett and Aurora caused damage to property along Highway 60 Wednesday afternoon, May 8.

The damage included Cox Hospital in Monett, which had the power cut off and was forced to run on a generator for about 45 minutes.

Additionally, cars in the parking lot were damaged by trees and limbs falling on them.

Also in the area, crews are conducting a search and rescue effort along Highway 60 between Berean Christian Academy and Highway 39 in Aurora.

Minor injuries have been reported, and Mercy is on the scene helping paramedics treat patients.

Emergency responders are assessing damage and cleaning up debris, which they say may extend up to 5-6 miles.
