Roundabout in east Louisville opens ahead of schedule
A train ride through southern Indiana can sound like the obvious centerpiece of a French Lick visit. The question is whether everyone wants the railway experience enough to give it that share of the day.
The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure for State Road 145 in Dubois County. Beginning on or around Thursday, November 12, crews will begin a daily road closure on State Road 145 near Birdseye. This closure will occur between Carlisle Road and Conservation Club Road. This closure will occur between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays.
Think about this. If the state and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) had done what former Governor Holcomb announced in 2021 to start improvements on existing US 231 through Dubois and Martin County, we would already be experiencing the benefit of passing lanes and improved intersections. When first announced, $75 million was to be allocated to these improvements. Even if the cost doubled to $150 million, it is a fraction of the projected $3.4+ billion Mid-States Corridor.
Norfolk Southern used one 26-hour maintenance window on the W Line for six major projects in southern Indiana and Kentucky. The railroad describes the work as a recent window on a line that carries intermodal and automotive traffic between Midwest and Southeast markets. The account is dated October 27, 2026. It does not give the calendar day the window occurred.
It’s all over but for the shouting and celebrating. Some of us won, and some lost. But the fight is not over. The issues have not been resolved. The Mid-States Corridor is not a settled issue, far from it. Those of us opposed to the Corridor project have been in this very same place before. It didn’t stop us then, and the losses at the ballot box only energized our efforts.

You see elegant new building additions, state-of-the-art sports complexes, and pristine facilities. But if you look closely at the afternoon school buses pulling out of those beautiful campuses and heading down corridors like the AA Highway or US 27, you will see a far darker reality.
