S.J. Shriner is continuing his family's legacy with Sheridan football
THORNVILLE — Some names simply speak for themselves. Sheridan High School has as many as anyone with those qualifications. When you’re Shriner, the expectation precedes itself like etches in an Egyptian pyramid. Its almost as if being tough, durable and consistent, regardless of the sport, is a generational gift. You can throw "team first" in there, too. Naturally, all of these describe sophomore S.J. Shriner, whose no-nonsense style as a 5-foot-7, 180-pound sophomore tailback harkens back to Generals of yesteryear. In his case, he need look only a few feet down the hall to find his personal benchmark. SJ’s father, Steven Shriner, was the backfield heartbeat of Sheridan offenses in the early 2000s, when he also starred in wrestling. He ran for 3,423 yards and 49 touchdowns in a three-year varsity career, culminated by a 153-yard showing on 29 carries in an 27-9 win against No. 2-ranked Dover in the Division III, Region 11 playoffs in 2002.
