Yearly fishing tournament scheduled for next week
The FourthAnnual Bob Wellman Memorial Fishing Tournament is scheduled for next week, May 18, at Laurel Lake, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Organizers said the event is free and will include prizes for the biggest fish caught in the adult and children (under 18) division. Ambulance service owner convicted of tax crimes
The owner of an ambulance service that operates in Mingo County has been convicted in federal court of tax crimes. According to a statement from the office of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia Will Thompson, after four days of trial on May 2, a jury in Beckley convicted Christopher Jason Smyth, 48, of Pineville, for for failing to pay the taxes withheld from employees’ wages at an ambulance service he operated – Stat EMS — and for obstructing the IRS.
