Coal Companies Accused of Negligence in Destructive Mingo County Mudslide
Earlier this year, a devastating mudslide in Mingo County, WV, prompted families to seek legal action. The mudslide, reportedly caused by inadequate sediment control measures at the Coal-Mac coal mine on Ragland mountain, led to significant damage. Homes were destroyed, vehicles damaged, and a train was derailed. The lawsuit names Coal-Mac Coal Company and Phoenix Coal Holdings as defendants. Claims include negligence, trespassing, and violations of liability laws and the Surface Coal Mining and Reclamation Act.
Planners: King Coal festival successful

Man wanted for burglary, hit-and-run arrested after chase
SIDNEY, Ky. — A Pike County man wanted in a pair of cases has been arrested, but not before leading police on a high speed chase and crashing his motorcycle twice.
