2 Coastside crashes give emergency crews a busy morning
SAN MATEO -- A crash in El Granada sent a car careening off the highway, smashing through a fence and hitting a house, injuring two occupants of the car Saturday, a Cal Fire spokeswoman said.The crash happened at the intersection of Highway 1 and Medio Avenue in El Granada, a village in San Mateo County. Firefighters responded at 9:02 a.m., according to Cecile Juliette of Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz."Two cars got into a crash on Highway 1 and one of them went through a fence and yard and hit a house at Third and Medio," Juliette said. The car did not penetrate the house, Juliette said.Two occupants of the car that hit the house were hospitalized, one with major injuries and the other with moderate injuries, according to Juliette.The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, the spokeswoman said.Later in the day, a car rolled over on Highway 1 south of Half Moon Bay, Cal Fire tweeted. There were no injuries in that incident.

I liked reading the headline, "To reduce inequality, locale school districts need to merge" in the May 5 issue!. During the time that I served on the Redwood City Elementary School District Board of Trustees (1974-1988), we struggled with one of the lowest revenue limits in San Mateo County. Ravenswood Elementary District was also at the bottom of the list. During that time our Superintendent Kenneth Hill suggested that all elementary districts within the Sequoia Union High School District (Belmont, San Carlos, Redwood City, Woodside, Portola Valley, Las Lomitas, Menlo Park, Ravenswood) should merge, creating one large unified K-12 district.
