HOPE, N.J. -- Hundreds of animals were killed when a barn burned to the ground in New Jersey, the Hope Volunteer Fire Department says.The fire started just after midnight Friday at Hope Cress Farms in Warren County.The Hope Volunteer Fire Department says 40 pigs and 400 chickens in the barn were killed, and farming equipment and tractors were destroyed.One of the volunteer firefighters who arrived on the scene is the son of the farm's owners."I heard the address. I couldn't believe it. You don't expect to hear your own address come over the pager ... I saw the wall of flames from almost a half mile away. When I pulled in the driveway, I saw it was our barn," said Lane Van Grouw.No one was hurt by the fire.The cause remains under investigation.

Woman, Dog Injured When Struck by Car in Westfield Friday, Chief Says
WESTFIELD, NJ — A 72-year-old woman and her dog were injured when they were struck by a car Friday afternoon, Police Chief Christopher Battiloro said. The crash happened at about 4:51 p.m. at the intersection of West Grove Street and Boulevard, he said. “It was determined that a 72-year Westfield resident was struck by a vehicle traveling west on West Grove Street, this while she was walking north and crossing the street at the intersection of Boulevard,” Battiloro said. “The victim was provided initial emergency medical care on the scene by Westfield police officers and then firefighters, and was subsequently transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital by the Westfield Rescue Squad and paramedics,” he said. The dog was transported by Westfield police officers to an emergency animal hospital on behalf of the victim, he said. The 74-year-old driver of the mid-sized sedan remained at the scene and fully cooperated with police, Battiloro said. Investigation into the crash by the Westfield Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau remains ongoing, Battiloro said. The Westfield Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Union County Police’s Accident Investigation Unit, he said.
