La Plata High School senior earns perfect ACT score
LA PLATA, Md. — Each year only about 1% of students who take the ACT earn a perfect score. This year, a Maryland high schooler was one of the few. Will Alcorn is a senior at La Plata High School and one of the few who achieved perfection after taking the ACT with a composite score of 36. The ACT is composed of four sections, English, math, reading, and science. Each test score ranges from 1 to 36. The composite score is the average of the four test scores and are rounded to the nearest whole number.

Waldorf fire displaces family
On April 23 around 5:48 p.m., a fire at 2129 Briarwood Drive in Waldorf was discovered by a passerby, who noticed the fire on the back side of the house, according to the state fire marshal’s office. The homeowners were not at home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. Structural losses were valued at $50,000 and the content losses at $2,000. The homeowners were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
St. Mary's school board approves raises for athletic trainers

Lusby woman convicted of federal fraud schemes
A 45-year-old Lusby woman was convicted on April 25 by a jury in federal court for conspiracies to commit passport, wire and bankruptcy fraud, as well as making a false statement in a bankruptcy proceeding.
